1981/09/01 TOWN OF BERLIN TOWN HALL • BERLIN. CONN. POLLUTION CONTROL COMMISSION MEETING Tuesday, September 1, 1981 7:30 P. M. Present: Richard Dalidowitz, John Stanton, Alan Wiersema. The meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m., in Room 5 of the Berlin Town Hall, Berlin, Conn~cticut, by Richard Dalidowitz. The Minutes of the July 7, 1981, meeting were accepted as read. Mr. Dalidowitz first stated that there had been no correspondence from anyone since the July meeting and that there was no new business. Mr. Stanton reported that the research on the Cooley land and a possible Town ordinance for hazardous waste spills in the Town was not yet ready. Fle agreed to get back to the Committee with further information at the next meetinq. Alan Wiersema reported that the plot of pollution and dump sites map with the water supplies overlay has not, as yet, been completed. Mr. Dalidowitz reported that he was notified by Dr. Chotkowski of' an inspection of Manafort's Christian Lane Dumpsite. He went for the inspection anci had an oppor- tunity of walking the site himself as no one appeared. As a result of this report, discussion followed with regard to the Manafort dumpsite and some of t;he Commission's concerns. Mr. Dalidowitz then brought up for discussion the Commission's gc-als and object- ives. By the 13th of September an outline of the Commission's accomplishments, its function, and who is involved has to be submitted for the annual report. Discussion followed with regard to possible goals and objectives which the Commission may become involved in to serve the most people and be the most effective. Some possibilities to be further discussed were: Water quality in the Town of Berlin, Silver Lake (basically a clear cut issue), and Public Education/Awareness. It was also suggested that both the Mayor and Dr. Chotkowski be c:ontacted in or- der that they may have an opportunity of stating their own objectives for the Commis- sion. Mr. Dalidowitz said that he would send out a reminder at the beginning of the month to request that Commission members give consideration to goals g~ objectives which would be ready for discussion at October's meeting. ~ ~ MINUTES - 2- September~ 1, 1981 Having no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:46 p.m. The next meeting of the Pollution Control Commission will be helcl at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 6, 1981.
