MINUTES OF NOVEMBER 27, 1985 MEETING
MEMBERS PRESENT: Frances Brautigam, Richard Dalidowit~: and
Richard Narus.
The meeting was called to order at 7~40 P.M. at
the home of Richard Dalidowitz, Chairman. Town
Hall was not accessible (locked) which prevented
the meeting from being held in Room ~ as
originally planned.
The minutes of the October 30, 1985 rneeting were
accepted as read.
OLD BUSINESS: Groundwater Protection:
Discussion continued on the need and desirability
of a local ordinance to protect groundwater
quality.
Richard Narus presented a map of Ber:Lin which was
prepared by Morgan Seeley and indicated the
location and approximate capacity of Berlin's
groundwater supplies. The potential :is approxi-
mately 2 to 3 million gallons per day, enough
to meet the present needs of the Town. However,
the hardness level in particular and in some cases
contamination would require additional treatment
of a good percentage of this water. Presently 30~
of the Town's needs are supplied by ;some of these
wells. The relatively low cost of pu:rchased water
from New Britain deters higher utilization. Based
on this information, it was agreed t:hat the
potential alone justifies protection. Richard
Narus will determine the extent to which these
wells are presently buffered by land owned by
the Town.
Copies of local ordinances were obtained by
Frances Brautigam so the Commission :members
could become familiar with their format and
language.

WASTE COLLECTION DAY
Frances Brautigam will contact the individual
who organized the recent Waste Collection Day
in Southington and ask her to speak at the
January 1986 meeting of the Commission.
Having no further business, the meeting was
adjourned at 8:45 P.M.
There will not be a regular December meeting.
The next regular meeting will be held on.
January 29, 1986 in Room 6 at Town Hall.
