Those present were Chairman Mr. Lubin, Mr. Johnson, Mn~. Klotz, Mr. Maule,
Silver, Mr.~ Mier~zejewski, Mr. Hrubiec, & Mn.,'Capodiece.
Chairman Mn. Lubin read ~a letter received from the Mayon concerning the
maintenance of public buildings, such as the pool buildings & dugouts. These
buildings will be under the care of Mn. Russell & his staff. The use of the~
buildings is still under the jurisdiction of the Park & Recreation Commission.
MN. Hrubiec stated that the work on the East Berlin Pool is 90% completed.
The public building staff will begin working on the Percival Pool~Monday May
9, I978.
A letter was also read that was sent to B & B Auto Parts Co. concerning the
approval by the Commission~ for them to use the Sage Park parking area the day
they hold an autorama.
Golf Course Report.
In the absence of both Mn. Graham & Mn. Hansen, the report was given by
M=. Hrubiec.
Golf Course is in good shape and play is up. B~cause of bad weather, the
ladies tees were started late. The rug for the clubhouse will be installed
shortly.
The Commission granted permission for the P.G.A. to hold a tournament, also
the gree~s fees were waived.~
The above matter was polled by telephone.
Public Grounds Report.
Mr. Hrubiec stated that his crew is busy fixing up and getting in shape all
baseball fields.!Tha backstop at Percival Field will be started Monday May 8,
I978. The hangover will be 24 feet from the backstop to where the batter stands
in the batters box.
Mr. Hrubiec is very well pleased with the men in the CETA group. P~esently
working at Timberlin Park, both Willard & Griswold areas, ?age Park, Murray
Heights, West Lane.& Wigwam Road areas.
Mn. Hrubiec stated there is a possibility of using the pon~ at Sage Park
for a small sprinkling system.
Mr. Hrubiec stated that there was a problem with th~ contractor building
the Marjorie Moore Village. They seem to leave debris and are cutting across
the grass near the Town Hall. Mr. Hrubiec and others met with the contractor
and ironed out the problems.
Concerning the rug for the Timberlin Clubhouse, Mr. Lubin stated that in the
future bids should go out immediately and all projects should be started as soon
as possible. If necessary the Clubhouse top floor should be closed off when the
rug is being installed. The only problem is that the restrooms for the ladies
are on the top floor.
Recreation Service Report.
Mn. Capodiece discussed at length the possibility of using the same pro-
cedure in the lower level picnic grounds in Timberlin Park as is used in the
pavilion area. The procedure is a fir~ come f&rst serve basis, signing up for
the area at the Recreation Service office & the use of beer &,alcoholi¢
beverages in the area.
The question of the park rules & the town ordinance concerning parks was
asked. Mn. Capodiece will be in touch w~'th the Town Counsel Mn. Jackaway for
the answers for the abova, questions.
Mn. Capodiece presented to the Commission three blueprints for the Murray
Heights playground.
On a motion made by Mr. Silver that th~ L shape design consisting of a
basketball court & a volleyball court, without curbing, but resurfaced be
selected for the playground. The Public Grounds Dept. will install the equip-
ment. Motion seconded by Mr. Johnson. Motion carried.
Mr. Silver suggested that the slide be eliminated because of safety reasons.
Summer help will paint playground equipment.

· On a motion made by Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Klotz that permission
be given to M~' Hrubiec to

· D-I984 and $I,000.00 from I978-I966. Motion carried.
Mr. Johnson would like to put on record the Commissions displeasure of the
cutting from the Park & Recreation I978'I979 budget, the following items,
bleachers, allowances for the utilities for Sage Park and also cuts in the
Youth Council budget.
A letter will be sent to the Board of Finance stati'ng the deep concern of
the Commission and ask the reason why these items were depleted.
Fishing Derby.
M~ Johnson stated that close to 200 children participated in the event.
He would like to see this become an annual event. Also Mr. Capodiece should
be congratulated for a job we~l done.-
The-remainder of the meeting was turned over to Mn. Capodiece for the
selection of sUmmer help.
Each person was intenviewed and ranked by their interviewer. Each person
who Worked last year was also~ nanKed at the end of the summer.
M~. Capodiece put a lot of time into this project and it took a lot of work.
If by. chance I6 yr. old persons are to be hired in the pool area, the
Commission would rather advertize again for older applicants and keep it in
town.
On a motion made by M=. Silver to hire. the persons recommended by M~,
Capodiece be accepted. Seconded by M~. Johnson. Motion carried.
