1979/02/01y I, I979 Park & Recreation Commission Meeting.
Those present were Chairman Mr. Lubin, Miss Dennehy, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Klotz,
Mr. Maule, Mr. Mierzejews~i, Mr. Miller, M~. Silver, Mr Hansen, Mr. Hrubiec,
and Mr. Capodiece. ·
Recreational Service Report.
M~. Capodice stated that winter programs are going well. No problems, at all.
The Recreational Service Department is applying for a grant from the Commission
for the Arts. If the grant is obtained it will be used for one person's salary
and supplies. The program will be run in the summer at the Community Center.
Because of the stage a play will be featured at t~e end of the season.
Applications for summer help are available.
Mr. Capodiece has some Favorable response from civic club, s concerning the
fishing derby. The Lions Club is interested. Mr. Capodiece would like to receive
donations, therefore prizes can be purchased.
Mr. Capodiece has me~ with Mayor Ragazzi.
Chairman Mr. Lubin stated that all departments have met with the Finance
Board concerning the I979-I980 budget. Does not ~now the outcome.
Golf Course Report.
M~. Hansen stated that the golf course budget has gone up. The Finance Board
would li~e the rate~ increased. Bring the rate up to par with other first class
area courses.
Mr. Johnson stated that they were right because we have not raised the rates
for the last three years.
Mr. Hansen stated that the season's tickets should be loo~ed into. His thought
is that some area of the money surplus should be put aside for the capital im-
provement of the golf course.
Mr. Klotz asked if a profit and loss statement could be obtained for the golf
course?
On a motion made by Mr. Johnson and seconded by Mr. Silver that the rate in-
crease be postponed until more information can be obtained. That Mm. Hansen pre-
sent to the Commission at the March I, I979 meeting a profit and loss statement
and rates from surrounding goll' coursesin a 30 mile circumference. Motion carried.
Mr. Lubin instructed Mr. Hansen to mail one week before the March meeting all
information he has gathered so the Commissioners can study this matter before the
meeting.
The water problem at the golf course is still up in the air. Mr. Russell is
still wor~ing on it.
The Concessioners contract was discussed.
Mr. Hansen stated that the concession is no cost to the town. The town ben-
efits. Prices are a little low in comparison. Mr. Johnson stated that the prices
are not outrageoua.
M~. Silver stated if it is a convenience we should not make it so stringent
and binding. We should not put out anything extra for his profit which is cost-
ing to us. The concession is no burden on the town. Town provides all services.
Chairman Mr. Lubin stated that the Mayor asked his opinion concerning the
Oosition of Greenskeeper? He sees no plus for leaving it the way it was in the
pas~.
Chairman Mn. Lubin will see the Mayor again. Mr. Silver suggested that Mr.
Lubin see the Mayor personally.
Discussed was the problem of some of the crew at Timberlin playin~ free of
charge.
Chairman M~. Lubin~stated that~ nobody, Plays free.
On a motion made by M~. Klotz. an~ seconded by Mr. Silve~ that no one plays
free ~except fr~m a prior commitment from the Commission. Motion carried.
On a motion made by M~. Johnson and seconded by Mr. ~lotz that the golf pro
~xtend to golf Professional,s and golf supe~intendent,s at his discretion to use
~he golf course free of charge. Motion carried.

On a motion made by Mr. Silver and seconded by Mr. Klotz that section 20 be
eliminated from the. contract ( concessioner plays free at the golf course) and
that the contract be updated to the present year. Motion carried.
Mr. Maule asked if the room which is rented at the clubhouse is damaged who
~s res~onsibl~? Chairman Mr. Lubin stated that the Commission is responSible for

Mr. Johnson suggested that the concessioner attend a meeting.
Mr. Silver suggested that the beer permit be looked into.
Public Grounds Report.
Mr. Hrubiec stated that a lot of damage, was dbne to the public grounds build-
ings, equipment, and greenhouse during the recent flood.
Mr. Hrubiec has met with the Mayor. A record was made of all replacement and
new equipment and was presented to the Mayor. We may be reimbursed by the govern-
ment.
The crew is working hard over in Sage Par~ cleaning out area near the all-
purpose field and pond. Also clearing Ragged Mt. and Webster Park. On the bad
days equipment repairs are being done.
The town engineers are drawing up boundary lines in the Ragged Mt. and Sage
Park areas.
Mr. Maule stated that plans are being drawn up for a concrete dam for the
skating pond in East Berlin.
Mn. Hrubiec has aplied for a conservation planning program for Sage Park.
Mm. Silver stated that Mr. Hrubiec should be commended for all the extra work
he puts into his job. Always there when needed.
