CONN. April 17, 1985 TO: Mr. Nunzio Rosso, Chairman, Planning Commission FROM: Design Review Committee SUBJECT: PUBLIC STORAGE, INC., Lot 14A, Block 82, Wilbur Cross Highway, Berlin, Conn. RE: Review of March 20, 1985 The Design Review Committee met for the second time with Mr. John M. Lynch on Tuesday, April 16, 1985 and -Mr. Terry Meyers of Meyers Associates, 60 Linden St., Waterbury, Conn., Engineer, to discuss revised plans for a storage facility. Mr. Meyers stated to the Committee that the plans for the storage facility have been changed and the buildings situated in a different location due to the fact that the Town of Berlin is in a First Fire District. Being in a First Fire District would require that all doors be fire rated. By allowing 60' between buildings and 30' on the sides of the buildings for passage of fire trucks, the fire rated doors would not be required. Mr. Lynch presented three different finishes for the outside of the buildings. The first two consisted of different types of graphic bands being painted on the buildings. The third suggestion, which the Committee felt was the most attractive, called for 3/4" grooves going up and down along the concrete panels of -the buildings. This effect would be used along the front of the first two buildings and would help to break up the expanse of the long buildings. The panels will be beige in color. Mr. Lynch proposed plans for two signs. One would be mounted on the first building and one would be a concrete monument sign near the front of the property. An appeal to allow more than one sign has been filed with the Zoning Board of Appeals. The building sign would be 25' x 414" and the monument sign 8'4" x 4'4" with an additional base height of 4'2". The signs will be orange & black using Public Storage's logo. Revised plans call for all the buildings to be two stories in height. The front building will be 100' x 130';and the other three buildings will be 50' x 250', with the 250' sides facing the highway. All the buildings will have elevators to the second floor. - --- -- -- -- - -- Ingeborg Lns- - -- — Actina Chai.r-manM jkb cc: Mr. Emil Carlson, Building Inspector Mr. John M.
