MEMBERS PRESENT: Lorraine Clark, Chairlady Betty Baldyga Marilyn Meigs Rev. Hugh B. Penney MEMBERS EXCUSED: Mary Wilcox MEMBERS ABSENT`: Leo Melowicz OTHERS PRESENT: Ellen Burbridge, Director JoAnn Budzinski, Assistant.to the Director OTHERS EXCUSED: Debbie D. Fiumara, Recording Secretary Audience of Citizens No discussion. Minutes - March .18,. 1996 Motion was made by Betty Baldyga, to accept the minutes of the March voted in favor. Old Business seconded by Mari-lyn Meigs and voted 189 1996 meeting as written, All Spring Fling - Lorraine Clark stated that she has spoken with Pam Dennis, Home Economics teacher at Berlin High School, about making food items, such as finger sandwiches, desserts, for the social to be held at the Berlin Senior Center. Chairlady Clark noted that Mrs. Dennis is.willing to cater this event. She noted that she will speak with Mrs. Dennis again in September to finalize.the details. A discussion then ensued about costumes and awarding prizes for different categories. The Commission decided to ask Mayor Ida Ragazzi, Town Manager The Commission then discussed.renaming the Spring Fling to the Halloween Harvest Fling. The Commission decided on Thursday, October -:24,,1996 from 3 PM to 5 PM as the::.date and time for this social. A discussion then ensued about costumes and awarding prizes for different categories. The Commission decided to ask Mayor Ida Ragazzi, Town Manager 242 � - 2 - Bonnie Therrien, and State Representative, Ann Dandrow, to act as judges for the Halloween -costume cont.esta The Commission then decided to donate the prizes for this contest. Each Commission member to donate one prize. Chairlady Clark noted that Mary Wilcox will be asked to look into obtaining musical entertainment for the Halloween Harvest Fling. She noted that in the past Mrs. Wilcox has stated that she knows of some musical groups that would be appropriate for this social, Rev. Penney stated that he also knows of a good musical group from New Britain who might be willing to entertain at this event. Food Share - Ellen Burbridge,-Director, stated that she is still in the process of contacting the Share Connecticut Program to set up a presentation at the Senior Center. Bus Fare Increase - Ellen Burbridge noted that the proposed increase in bus fare is on hold.. She stated that she needs to pursue this request with the new Town Manager and with the Town Council. , Commission Lunch - The Commission members discussed having lunch at the Senior Center with the participants of the congregate meal program. It was decided to schedule this event for Thursday, September 19, 19968 Other Business - Chairlady Clark noted that she felt it would be appropriate to send a letter from the Commission to the new Town Manager, Bonnie Therrien, welcoming her to Berlin,, The members of the Commission agreed and Chairlady Clark will send this letter as soon as possible. New Business Information— FOI Meeting .- Chairlady Clark noted that she had attended the April 17, 1996 meeting. She stated that the FOI attorney had gone over different points of law in regard to posting an agenda, what can appear on an agenda, etc.. She also stated that she found this meeting to be very informative. Correspondence from Mayor- Ragazzi.- Chairlady Clark noted that she had received a copy of the new travel -policy instituted by the Town as of January, 1996. She noted that this policy is available for any board member who wishes to review it. Chairlady-Clark also stated that she had received a letter from Mayor Ragazzi regarding requests for Corporation Counsel opinions. She noted that a new procedure must be adhered to and that this procedure is available to any member of this Commission who wishes to review it. LN Other Business - Chairlady Clark asked Ellen Burbridge, Director, about her thoughts regarding opening the Senior Center in the evening'for specia events. Ms. Burbridge noted that this has happened in the past. She also noted that in her opinion many seniors are apprehensive about traveling in the evening and prefer to schedule their social appointments in the day. I � 243," - 3 - LAdjournment Motion was made by Betty Baldyga, seconded by Rev. Hugh B. Penney, and voted to adjourn this meeting at 7:45 PM. All voted in favor.
