The Commission for the Aging held their November 18, 1985 meeting
at the Berlin Senior Center at 7:00 P.M.. Members attending were Chairman
Mildred Foster, Vice -Chairman Norman Johnson, Joseph Murphy, Charles Graham,
Alice Fleming, Helen Murphy, Rhea Boscolo and Florence Barrell, Senior
Citizen Director. Absent members were Elsie Lunt and Charles Davis.
Mrs. Barrell introduced new commission member Rhea Boscolo and the
new assistant senior citizen director, Mrs. Ann Dandrow, who began her
duties today and was a guest at the meeting. Minutes of the previous
meeting were read individually by each member, approved and accepted.
Mrs. Barrell reported the senior bus was back on the road and the
drivers were having some difficulty making passenger destinations to & fro.
A discussion followed regarding the need for a definite routine schedule,
a maintainer driver and a Van. A letter of intent will be sent to the State
Department of Aging. Mrs. Foster suggested attending an Executive Board
meeting next Monday to discuss the purchase of another mini-bus'or Van with
money in the Marjorie Moore Fund.
Mrs. Barrell explained some of the duties Mrs. Dandrow would be
performing as assistant director and Mrs. Dandrow told of her past exper-
iences and wokk-related education now pursuant for'a Masters Degree.
The budget proposal distributed to each member by Mrs. Barrell was
discussed and voted on tobe accepted as is and will be submitted to the
Executive and Finance Boards. Cost of the book -cases delivered by Dr.
McIntosh is $234.00. Mrs. Foster asked Mrs. Barrell to compile a list of
equipment needed for the Center such as easily movable leisure furniture,
China, Pots, Pans, Typewriter, etc.
Mr. Johnson mentioned having a Luncheon for the Seniors here at the
Center rather than at Beckley Gardens. Mrs. Murphy said she would prefer
that; Alice Fleming asked if the Seniors would continue -holding their
luncheonsatBeckley or change to the Center. The feasibility of having
a luncheon for Seniors as suggested by Mr. Johnson on -January 13, 1986 was
left for Mrs. Barrell to decide. 'Ways of utilizing the Center were discussE
and Mrs. Barrell told of the present daily and weekly activities being held
now and of future programs planned.--!" To date, no newsletter for mailing
purposes is on the agenda.
Mrs. Boscolo asked about establishing a checking account for the
Center Activity Fund. This will be requested of the Executive Board.
The next Commission meeting is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 16, 1985. This
meeting adjourned at 8:30 P.M..
