supportive services to the parents Of Freshmen. one suggestion was
to use the existing freshman parents orientations as a vehicle for
supplying information. sending one or more newsletters to the
parents was also discussed. opinions differed as to whether this
letter should provide a summary and update of school activities or
information as to what programs, services, and supports are available
from various agencies and organizations throughout the community. A
motion was made and approved to further study the possibility of such
a letter, what it's focus should be, and who should be responsible
for sending

a) Doug reported that The United Way is seeking proposals for a
grant that would be well suited to helping to fund an alternative
detention program in one of the schools. Alice Mitchell responded
favorably when consulted about possible UPBEAT participation in such
a program. Applying for the grant now depends on a favorable
response from the administration at McGee School.
b) Contingent on Board of Education action funding is now in place
to restore the open gym program at the High School. During the
winter months there are very few.days when the gym is available. The
question of the availability of the gym at McGee was raised. Motion
was passed to look into the availability of the McGee gym or other
gyms in town for open gym nights for High School Students.
c) -NECFY membership was tabled until next meeting.
6) Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 6 at the Town Hall.
