Minutes of Monday, June 20, 2022

meeting.

1. Call to Order:
Chairman Gombotz called the meeting to order at 5:07 P.M.
2. Roll Call:
Present: Barbara Gombotz Chairman, Frank Slogeris, Lois
Ustanowski, Kay Murray, Ann Gamelin.
3. Approval of Minutes – May 16, 2022 Meeting:
Commissioner Slogeris made a motion to accept the Minutes of
Monday May 16, 2022, as written. Commissioner Ustanowski seconded
the motion & the Minutes were approved.

6. Town Housing Report – Ann Gamelin:
Commissioner Gamelin encouraged everyone to fill out & submit
the Plan of Conservation & Development (POCD) survey. She noted that

there will be two meetings this week, Wednesday June 22 @7:00 and a
rd
two-part meeting on Thursday, June 23, 5:15 at the Board of Education
and 7:00 at the Town Hall. They will be covering different section of the
Plan of Conservation & Development. would.
7. Senior Center/Community Center Report – B. Gombotz:

Chairman Gombotz noted that the Advisory Committee Report for
the new Senior Center/Community Center was sent to the Town Council
and the Town Council has forwarded it to the Finance Committee.
Chairman Gombotz stated that she was pleased to see so many people in
attendance at the Senior Center on the day of the forum regarding the
Senior Center/Community Center. She was also pleased that many of
the seniors participated.
8. Former Knights of Columbus/Percival Ave. Bldg – B. Gombotz
Chairman Gombotz had spoken with Joe Bajorski, Chairman of
th
the Berlin Housing Authority on June 19. Mr. Bajorski expects the
Town Council to transfer title of the former Knights of Columbus
property sometime in July/August. Then the Brownfields study will be
taken over by the Berlin Housing Authority. He noted that they look to
start construction in March/April 2023. Chairman Gombotz stated that
there is a great need for senior housing and there are approximately 120
people on the waiting list.
9. Old Business:
The Commission discussed concerns of tenants at the existing
senior housing locations. Chairman Gombotz is very concerned and she
will contact Housing Authority Chairman Bajorski regarding these
concerns. Tenants noted that they have not received notification of their
recertification which they normally receive in March or April. They want
to know if there will be a rent increase in July.
10. New Business:
Chairman Gombotz thanked the Commissioners for their
attendance and participation in the meetings over the last year. It has
been a struggle for everyone during these difficult times and she is
pleased that everyone has made the effort to attend meetings.
11. Motion to Adjourn:
Commissioner Slogeris made a motion to adjourn the meeting at
6:10 pm. Commissioner Murray seconded the motion & it was
unanimously approved.
