BOARD OF SELECTMEN
April 16, 1973
The meeting was opened by First Selectman Arthur B. Powers at 7:30 p.m.
Mr. Powers and Mr. Lanzoni were present. Mr. Rio was absent.
Also present were: Miss Deena Clavette of the press and Gary Laskowski
an observer. '
On motion by Mr. Lanzoni, seconded by Mr. Powers, it was voted to accept
the minutes of 4/9/73. MOTION CARRIED.
On motion by Mr. Lanzoni, seconded by Mr. Powers, it was voted to add to
the Call to Town Meeting (to be held on 23 April 1973 at McGee School)
the following item:
To consider and act upon a proposal to authorize the Board of
Education to apply to the State Board of Education for State
Aid, and to further authorize said Board of Education to accept
or reject such State Aid Grant in the name of the Town of Ber-
lin for its portion of space in the Town Complex.
MOTION CARRIED.
Mr. Powers read a letter from Anthony Gandolfo, Chairman of the Public
Building Commission in which he advises that a resolution is needed to
accompany the application for aid from the state for the Board of Ed-
ucation's portion of the Town Hall Complex. The above motion to place
such an item of the agenda will be sufficient to take care of the re-
quest in Mr. Gandolfo's letter.
Mr. Powers announced that he would be attending a meeting of the CCRA
on Tuesday, 4/17/73 at which time it, the Central Connecticut Refuse
Authority, might possibly sign the grant application for state funding.
Mr. Powers said he would like to see a turn,key operation.
On motion by Mr. Lanzoni, seconded by Mr. Powers, it was voted to accept
the recommendation of Richard Russell, Maintenance Engineer, and hire
Stanley Maguder, a local resident, as part-time custodian at the Police
Station, until 30 June 1973, the end of this fiscal year. MOTION CARRIED.
On motion by Mr. Lanzont, seconded by Mr. Powers, it was voted to sign an
agreement between the Town of Berlin and Emma N. and Herman Brayfield for
use of a portion of their land to be used as a bus turnaround. The town
is to blacktop and maintain the turnaround. MOTION CARRIED.
