2020-02-19 TOWN OF BERLIN BERLIN-PECK MEMORIAL LIBRARY BOARD WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 19, 2020 ATTENDANCE: Members Present Chairman Donna Moore, Vice Chairman Robert Lewis, Sharon Powell, Kay Murray, Chris Fasciano, Lisa Bush, Carol Welz, Lillian Ulan STAFFPRESENT Director Helen Malinka MEMBERS ABSENT Elaine Borselle CALL TO THE ORDER Chairman Moore called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M. AUDIENCE OF CITIZENS None Carol Welz made a motion to nominate Donna Moore as Chairman seconded by Lillian Ulan, passed unanimously. Chris Fasciano made a motion to nominate Robert Lewis as Vice Chairman, seconded by Carol Welz, passed unanimously. REVIEW OF THE MINUTES Kay Murray moved to approve the minutes for January 8, 2020, seconded by Carol Welz, passed unanimously. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: Director Malinka reported that the friends will be raising their prices on brand new books to $4.00 each. The bagged books will be increased to $7.00 a bag. Barbara Ritchie is the volunteer who started the homebound service. She is very well like by residents. She won the Volunteer of the year award. She will be receiving the award in the upcoming months. The wireless printing will be changing to network printing on the library network. Heritage Quest is a new database focusing on genealogy that was added to the library website.. The Census 2020 is coming out. Library patrons can come in and fill out the census online. The library staff is only allowed to show people to the computer and get them to the website. The library has a YouTube channel which has loaded taped presentation. Director Malinka reported that the Caregivers Support Group will start March 16, 2020 and will be the 3�d Monday of every month. The budget referendum is March 31St 2020. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: Chairman Moore discussed the "Annual Report" with the board. She reported that a lot has been accomplished in the past year. See attached SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS: - Governance Committee — "Review New/Revised Policies" — Chris Fasciano read through the policies and doesn't see any issues with the policies. The Patron Behavior Policy hasn't been updated in many years. This policy will now be updated and labeled Library Use Policy. Vice Chairman Robert Lewis made a motion to approve the Photography, Filming and Videography Policy, seconded by Kay Murray, passed unanimously. Kay Murray made a motion to approve the Library Use Policy, seconded by Lillian Ulan, passed unanimously with correction. Sharon Powell made a motion to approve the Unattended Children Policy, seconded by Chris Fasciano, passed unanimously. - Outreach Committee - None - Finance & Foundation Committee - None - Seed Library - Chris Fasciano reported that labels are being made and seeds are being packaged. He will be giving a seed presentation to the Garden Club on March 19, 2020 at 7:00 pm, meeting starts at 5:30 pm. Berlin,Plainville and t`etiv Britain receivzd a grant for a social worker to pro��ide services€or 4 hours per week,ger library and HartFord T-tealthcare is f'unding an additional 28 hours for her time at the hospitaE. �['e held 3 fimdr�isers for the Library. The First w as held at Bertucci's Restaurant.lVe also had a Alothcr's Day Baubizs and Bling je�veln•sale as well as a C:hrishnas Baubles and Bling je�velry saiz. The Iibrary no�r•has two in-hovse Notary Publics and our passport business continues to fIourish. �s our Seed Library continues to grotiv,�ve heid an informatirc talk on ihe Seed Library for our patron�. The library instituted"�ines Frce"for our Seniors and"Fines Free'for children's rnaierials. ��'e now offer automatic reneiials on our loans w•hich has been�:�ell recziyed. Thc Boo�Club hegan a G�'alliing$ook Discussion Club around Pistol Creek for our patrons. �i'e received a grant for a 1�femory-CafE for caregio•ers and those dealino�vidt memorv challenges. 'I Stop&Shop was our venue rivo Fri�ay evenin�s in�ia}�and June while�re surveyed residents re�arding oar librarc�. Staff rr�embers�td<<olunteers ha@ a table at ItCC's Stra�vberry and Lobster Festival in June where we promoted our library. ��:'e are now circulating t�vo mobil;hot spots,as�vell ae various cake and baF;ing par�s. The Iibrary purchased a photo scanner and VHS converter for our Digifal I�ledia Lab,thanks to patron donations. ' We continue to grow-and expand our IiUrary malting our patrons happy and encited.
