2019-11-13 TOWN OF BERLIN BERLIN-PECK MEMORIAL LIBRARY BOARD � WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 13, 2019 ATTENDANCE: Members Present Donna Moore, Chairman, Robert Lewis, Vice Chairman, Kay Murray, Chris Fasciano, Lisa Bush, Sharon Powell, Elaine Borselle, Carol Welz Staff Present Director Helen Malinka Members Absent Lillian Ulan Call to the Order Chairman Moore called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M. _ Audience of Citizens None Review of the Minutes Kay Murray moved to approve the minutes for October 9, 2019, seconded by Vice Chairman Lewis, passed unanimously. LIBRARIAN'S REPORT: Director Malinka reported the passport revenue is climbing. The notary service is being used and hopefully the word will get out around town that the service is available at the library. The Finance Department denied the request for the sale of postage stamps at the library. CHAIRMAN'S REPORT: None SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS: - Governance Committee — Director Malinka explained that the security camera policy given to the board at the last meeting is to protect the library, library patrons and the staff. Director Malinka asked the board if the policy is sufficient or if they would like to make changes. The board will look at the policy for one more month and give feedback at the next minute. - Outreach Committee - None - Finance & Foundation Committee - None COMMUNICATIONS: None OLD BUSINESS: Director Malinka reported that a patron, Barbara Ritchie has been delivering books to homebound residents and has been nominated for the "Edith Nettleton Volunteer of the Year Award." Residents were asked to write letters in her favor. Best of luck to Barbara. The Little Free Library at the Berlin Train is getting use. The Social Worker started working and appointments can be made to see her and or walk INS are welcome. She is shared with Plainville and New Britain. Boscov's fundraiser made $480.00 NEW BUSINESS - Baubles � Bling sale - Director IVlalinka is looking for volunteers for the sale. There are time slots posted via email. The sale dates are 12/5/2019 & 12/7/2019 - Pop-up libraries —The reference staff suggested doing a pop up library, which consists of a box of books, calendars, and information where people wait for periods such as hair salons, barbershops, auto service stations, coffee shops, etc. - Budget prep starting — Director Malinka explained the proposed budget to the board. There is a line for Sunday hours, which is being requested again. She is also trying to increase the audiovisual budget due to increase in_ prices and the interest in DVD's by older generation Berlin residents. - The February meeting was voted and approved changed to: February 19, 2019.
