1964/05/25Minutes ef Meetin~ May 25, 1964 TOWN OF BERLIN OFFICE OF THE SELECTMEN The meeting was called te order at 8:05 p.m. with the three Selectmen present. Mrs. Sandra Lund and Mrs. Mary Massiero were present as observers. Mrs. Blanche Mahan and Mrs. Patricia Duplin also present for the Press. Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted as written. In honor of the occasion of the retirement of the late Fire Chief George Skene's uniform and equipment by the East Berlin Fire Department on Saturday, May 23, 1964, Mr. Powers presented a resulution by the Board of Selectmen, on behalf of the townspeople, posthumously commending and thanking the above George Skene for his many years of devotion and unselfish giving of himself to the goals of volunteer fire fighting and to the s~vice of his co~unity.. It is Mr. Power's suggestion that a copy of this resulution be presented to his wife and to the Fire Department. It was VOTED, upon motion by Mr. Lanzoni, seconded by Mr. Blackburnthat the resolution be accepted and Mr. Powers' suggestions be followed. It was VOTED to name Miss Grace Stowell as Chairman of United Nations Day in October. Miss Stowell has been Chairman for the last several years and has always done a commendable job in this respect. Proper notification bo be given to Miss Stowell. Letter was read from Day, Berry & Howard, Attorneys with reference to the Selectmen executing the certificate concerning the msolution for the issuance of the $430,000 School Bonds of the Town of Berlin for the Hubbard School in East Berlin. It was pointed out by Mr. Powers that the bonds have been issued for 18 years rather than the usual 20 years. Motion was made an~ duly seconded that the Selectmen comply with the above request after Mr. Powers has seen that the necessary corrections are made on the bonds - showing them to be for 20 years. Unanimously passed., Letter was read from Town Counsel Harry Jackway including the Lease with the Berlin Playhouse, Inc. Since the lease incorporates all the requirements as set forth in a previous meeting, a MOTION was made by Mr. Lanzoni, seconded by Mr. Black- burn that the Selectmen sign the lease and forward same to the Playhguse for its signature. Passed unanimously.
