The meeting was called to order at 7:12 PM by Chairman M. Wnuk. MINUTES A motion was made by Mark Lewandowski and was seconded by James Simons to accept the minutes of the April 3, 2001 meeting. Motion passed unanimously. VOICE OF THE PUBLIC Fire Marshal Steve Waznia spoke on new developments that are going up in Town: (1) a couple of new buildings will be going up on Clark Drive (2) Golf course is coming along good. (3) Brescia is putting up a new building on Christian Lane. (4) Joe's Diner will open up in July. (5) A new residential area on High Road near the horse barn will be coming shortly. (6) Spruce Brook Park on New Park Drive will construct a new building on the corner. (7) On Woodlawn Drive, a new manufacturing building is partially built. (8) Hunters will be moving to Mill Street by Sharon Elizabeth's Flower Shop. • (9) Marshal Waznia discussed the possible change on a building permit—will read . whether the building will be wood or steel constructed. (10)Family Dollar Store will open soon next to Ocean State Job Lot, (11)A new development is planned near the Menden Town Line on the Wilbur Cross Highway. (12)The Water Commission will make a survey of the water situation in the Development near the Hawthorne Restaurant. The water pressure is pretty low. If the developer is going to build at a higher elevation than is already constructed,he will have to install large pumps to build up the volume and pressure. The Otican system will be installed next year in East Berlin. The system on the Wilbur Cross Highway will be maintained by the D.O.T. On Farmington Avenue,the Town will do the maintenance. Chief Simons and Chief Lewandowski reported on the progress of the Haz-Mat trailer. Lewandowski and Cal Davis reported on the changes that were made in the original specifications. The proposed changes will increase the price by about$48,000 per Engine M. Lewandowski will attend the Council meeting on July 10 to discuss the changes that were made and hopefully the Council will approve them. COMPU[ER COMMITTEE The Chiefs are recommending that 1 person be in charge from each depai tfflent to serve on the Computer Committee and report to Chief Simons for directions. A target date of January 1, 2002 to get the new program on-line. The Committee will be John Kaczmarek BFD,Michael Blaise SKFD, Barbara Sagen KFD, and Jason Zigmont EBFD. TRAINING COMMIT FEE The Chiefs are recommended that 1 person be in charge of a committee to get the training program on line. Chief Lewandowski will get the program started by the middle of September. NEW BUSINESS • MEDICAL RESPONSE It was reported that Hunters Ambulance thanked the Fire Departments for the excellent support rendered to them at the last incidents. Hunters would like the Fire Departments to respond to accidents when injuries are reported in the initial call. Further study by the Fire Departments will be made. Chief Wnuk reported that he is starting an explorer post to generate more firefighters. He will set up a letter that he hopes will help all departments. The Citizens Paper will have a Volunteer Column in recognition for firefighters who volunteer their time. Chief Wnuk stated that his department is making a Department by-law change(no more 16-17 year olds will be taken in for active firefighting). A Fire Prevention Program will be set up this fall and Fire Marshal Waznia will help on this. He has basically all fire prevention material available. Next meeting will be on July 17,2001.
