FORTHEAGINthe Commission For The Aging was called to order at 7:07 P.M. by DilidEP8IFTOR
Ellen Burbridge. Members present: Alice Fleming, Elsie B. Lunt, Bernie W.
Murphy, Joseph F. Murphy and Mary Wilcox. Absent: Rhea Boscolo Excused:

I. Minutes of the Previous Meeting':
A :Motion was made by Joseph Murphy and Seconded by Elsie B. Lunt to accept
the minutes of the January 23, 1989 meeting. All in favor - Motion carried.
A suggestion was made by Mary Wilcox that the minutes for The Commission For
the Aging be of more detail and length.
On Februar'r 8, 1989, Mayor Robert Peters sent a Thank you letter to Dorothy
Breski and the Senior Center Crafters for the Popcorn Machine. The popcorn
machine will be used for weekly bingos, golf meetings monthly dances,
Christmas bazaars and Yankee Peddlar Days.
C,Immunity Concerns:
Frances Spires was present for the February meeting. At the present time he
has nothing to report.
Director's Report:
See attached - Exhibit "A"
The kiln for the ceramic classes was delivered on February 24, 1989. They
are now awaiting for a representative from the company to come and set up the
kiln and also to instruct its functions.
On February 24, 1989 Blue Cross/Blue Shield Representative, Pat Brassil,
came to speak to a group of approximately 50 Seniors on New Medicare Laws.
Ellen Burbridge mentioned that approximately every three months a
representation will come and speak to the Seniors.
On February 27, 1989, Alice Fleming mentioned that the Senior Center had
any activities going on. To name a few - Singing Group, Cholesterol,
screening, presentation by Neighborhood Legal Services, Inc. on Wills, Living
Wills, Power of Attorney, and other topics, and there also was a set - back
tournament.
Activity Account:
Balance: $ 2,193.62. Since the January 23, 1989 meeting, the only expense
was for the supplies of the popcorn machine.

II Old Business
Commission Meetings - Schedule change:
A Motion was made by Mary Wilcox and Seconded by Joseph Murphy to keep the
meetings as scheduled. All in favor - Motion carried.
Election of new officers:
Joseph Murphy made a Motion to nominate Rhea Boscolo as Chairman. Seconded
was made by Mary Wilcox. Two (2) votes were cast for Rhea Bocolo.
Other nominations were - Alice Fleming made a Motion to nominate Eugene
Chartrand as Chairman. Seconded was made by Elsie B. Lunt. Five (5) votes
were cast for Eugene Chartrand. Joseph Murphy move that it be made unanimous
to accept Eugene Chartrand as Chairman. Bernie Murphy Seconded.
Congratulations to our new Chairman - Eugene Chartrand.
Bernie Murphy made a Motion to nominate Joseph Murphy as Vice Chairman.
Seconded it was Elsie B. Lunt. No other nominations were made. All in favor
- Motion carried.
Congratulations to our new Vice Chairman - Joseph Murphy.
Elderly Survey update:
•
Mary Wilcox spoke on this subject. Contact was made with Antoinette Pager
( Director of Social Services) and Jean Conway ( Director of Visiting Nurses).
Explain the need and willingness to work together with The Commission For The
Aging and The Senior Center staff to access the needs of the Berlin Senior
Community. Key areas are: To better expand the transportation for the.
Seniors, the need for Handi/fix-it men/women, outside contact with Seniors.
III . New Business
1) . Elsie B. Lunt suggested to Director Ellen Burbridge that lettering be
placed on the front of the Berlin Senior Center Bus to better identify the
vehicle when approaching.
2) . Welcome New Members, Chairman Eugene Chartrand and Dorothy Breski.
Director Ellen Burbridge adjourned the meeting at 8:18 p.m.

Subject: Director's Report
1. Power Tools - Have been delivered to the Center with the exception of the Jointer,
and a Sander. The next step is to work with the building department
to assemble the equipment.
2. Kiln - Has been ordered and paid for by the crafters. Approximate cost is $680.00
3. Popcorn Machine - The Senior Center Crafters also donated a brand new popcorn
machine. It will be used at weekly bingos, golf meetings,
monthly dances, as well the yearly Christmas Bazaar and Yankee
Peddlar Days. Cost of the machine was $399.95.
4. Income Tax Program - Began on Thursday February 2nd. There are three preparers
who handle about 16 people each week.
