1965/01/15 Park and Recreation Commission Meeting January 15, 1965.
A meeting of the Park and Recreation Commission was held on Friday,
January 15, 1965 at 8 p.m. at the Town Hall. Those present were
Chairman Dennehy, Mr. Greco, Mr. Blake, Mr. Mute, - _',
Mr. Johnson, Mr. Bergstrom, Mr. Anderson, Mr. Knapsack, Mr. Roby,
Director of Public Works Mr. Seely° and Recreation Director
Mr. Baylock.
On a motion made by Mr. Blake and seconded by Mr. Anderson.
Mr. John Dennehy was elected Chairman of the Park and Recreation
Commission.
Applications for the position of playground instructors were
received from the following. Dorothy DiMugno and Diane Negrini .
Applications for a position opening up with the park department
have been received from the following. Joseph P. Cugno,
George Peplau, Edward Dyson, Mario Ferrarino, and Leo Derosier.
The following sub committees were named by Chairman Dennehy.
Golf - Mr. Bergstrom
Pool - Mr. Greco, Mr. Roby, Mr. Knapsack
Mr. Blake suggested that the agenda of the meeting appear on the
cards that the secretary sends out.
The next meeting will be an organization meeting.
All future meetings will be held in accordance of the Roberts
Rules.
The following work order was issued to Mr. Seelye by Chairman Dennehy.
Clear brush around Little League Field and cut trees and brush
at the Griswold site.
Chairman Dennehy discussed with the commission the basic changes
of the committee in becoming a commission.
The secretary will send out cards to members the date on which the
commission will meet with the Finance Board.
Job classifications will be spelt outon the following jobs and
the following members were appointed to do so.
Swimming Director - Mr. Greco, Mr. Roby, Mr. Knapsack.
Recreation Director - Mr. Baylock and commission will approve.
Park Superintendent - Mr. Johnson, Mr. Bergstrom, Mr. Anderson.
The Berlin Jaycees are sponsoring a Junior Olympics ice competition
for children 6 through 16. Mr. Johnson has asked the park
department to plow the Sherwood Tool Co. Pond if necessary.

Chairman Dennehy asked members to bring into the next meeting
suggestions for a heated work shop for the park department
employees and equipment.
Mr. LeMire the full time Recreational Director of Newington will
be present at a future meeting.
Members of the commission will interview applicants for the park
department position. The comm lesion will hire with the approval
of the Selectman.
Mr. Morgan Seelye Director of Public Works stated that there was
a problem with the organizations who borrowed blechers and did
not return them. Therefore, the park department employees had
to pick them up.
Mr. Baylock stated that a summer music program would be held.
The following are suggestions from members on various subjects.
Omit the word Olympic from the title given to the pool.
Hire an answering service where one could call asking if there
was skating or not.
Ask for volunteers to help from the high school students, retired •
people or parents for the various programs sponsered by the
commission. •
