1964/11/20 Park and Recreation Meeting November 20, 1964.
A meeting of the Park and Reoreation'Committee was held on Friday,
November 21, 1964 at 8 p.m. at the town hail. Those present were
Chairman Dennehy, Mr. Greco, Mr. Gurskis, Recreational Director
Mr. Baylock and Director of Public Works Mr. Morgan Seelye.
Present at this meeting were two represenatives from the E. J. Wagner
Co. , Inc. a swimming pool concern.
The Two represenatives of the pool company discussed In full the details
of building a pool.
By December 15th the Park and Recreation Committee will receive a budget
quotation or a rough estimate from the Wagner Co., Inc. on the construction
of a pool.
The Wagner represenatives gave Mr. Dennehy three concerns which we could
call upon for information. They are the Sinclair and Austin Architects,
Rutherford Architects and Clothier Metal Structures Company.
Mr. Baylock stated that this winter there will be a town basketball
league on Tuesday evenings. The league will have four teams.
Mr. Dennehy instructed Mr. Seelye Director of Public Works to have the
park department burn off a lot at the Griswold School and have the
grading done at Griswold School too.
Mr. Dennehy stated that the Barringt on Assoc. s es ted the recreational
needs for the town of Berlin are the following (11)a full time director,
(2) a building including an auditorium, and (3) a pool.
The committee suggested to Mr. Baylock to form a hiking club, to open
Friday nights for recreation and to have girls tennis at the Griswold
School.
Mr. Gurskis suggested to Mr. Baylock that he have the time for the
playging of games for the Saturday morning basketball league appear in
the newspaper each week.
