JANUARY 18, 1963
The Park and Recreation Commission met a 8 p.m. in the Town Hall with
Chairman Dennehy, Mr. Anderson, Mr. Sargis, Mr. Johnson, Mrs. Steward,
Recreation Director Mr. Baylook and Mr. Dennis, Mr. LaRosa of the Park
and Maintenance Departments.
Applications for summer jobs were received from Oynde Swanson and(Cara
Bergstrom.)
Mr. Dennis stated that the town crew filled the East Berlin skating rink
with gravel and then flooded it with the town pump. Mr. Dennis has to
depend on the fire departments for the flooding of the bigger rinks.
Because of the children trouble at the rinks. Mr. Dennis stated that no
skating sins and the park rules shoudl be posted.
Mr. Dennehy instructed Mr. Dennis to remove the looks on the tennis courts
at the Kensington Grammer School.
Mr. Dennis stated that the lumber has arrived and Mr. LaRosa will start
assembling equipment boxes for Mr. Baylock.
Mr. Dennehy stated that all small equipment such as an electric drill, a
spreader and a sweeper should be purchased before June 30th.
Mr. Dennis stated that he would like to make a trailer for the town pump.
The committee suggested that a covering of loam be placed on the Percival
Field and the high school' field before the sprtng baseball season begins.
Mr. Dennehy stated that in the 1963-1964 budget the amount of $25.00 per
month for Mr. LaRosa's truck expense was- erroneously omitted.
A volleyball program for the winter months will be set up by the committee.
Service Clubs and other town organizations would make up the teams.
The secretary was instructed to write letters to the above.
Mr. Dennehy would seek permission from the First Selectman to use the
Community House for the Park and Recreation meeting in the future.
The instructors of the archery program sponsored by the Park and Recreation
Commission attented the meeting. The program will be held on Wednesday
evenings at the Percival School. The instructors stated response to the
class was very good. Members of the class will bring their own archery tackle.
On a motion made by Mr. Anderson and seconded by Mrs. Steward that the
committee purchase a backstop (approximately $126.00) and four targets
(approximately $20.00 each) .
