1986-01-16 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION MINUTES -- JANUARY 1986
The January 16 , 1986 meeting of the Economic Development
Commission was opened at 6: 40 P.M. by chairman, Fred Riggs.
Those present were members of the Executive Board, Mayor
Ward, Deputy Mayor Kingsbury, and Deputy Mayor McNair;
Commissioners Bruce Trevethan, John Frink, Tom Stregowski ,
and Allan Hall; and Economic Development Director, Jeff Cugno.
Representatives from CE Maguire, Inc. and Cope and Associates
gave a presentation on a proposed marketability study for
Farmington Avenue. Mr. Cope explained that all research
on the area would be analyzed and a completed report would
normally be ready in about four months. However, because of
time constraints in this project with regards to the "Small
Cities" grant, he said his firm could alter their priorities
to get the study done in less time. After a lengthy- discussion
with many questions and answers, the Commission thanked the
Executive Board and the Maguire group for their attendance
and input.
Mr. Riggs called the meeting officially to order at 8 : 25 P.M.
The Commissioners expressed interest in inquiring as to the
availability of Raymond, Parish, Pine & Weiner, Inc . to
perform a marketability study and also to discuss with Sam
Pine, his ideas for Farmington Avenue in regards to the
corridor study. A motion was passed for Mr. Cugno to contact
Mr. Pine and set up a convenient time for him to meet with
the Commissioners to discuss the Farmington Avenue Rehabilitation
project.
Mr. Riggs informed the Commissioners of the meeting he
attended with officials from Waterford regarding the Crystal
Mall in that town. He reported that their experience with
the mall and its developers was a positive one and they feel
future growth can be attributed to the mall.
Mr. Riggs encouraged the Commissioners to attend the traditional
"Meet the Mayor" luncheon sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce
to be held on January 21, 1986.
A motion was unanimously passed to reelect Mr. Riggs as
Chairman, Mr. Ward as Vice-Chairman, and Mr. Trevethan as
Treasurer of the Commission.
Mr. Riggs announced that the Economic Development Commission
meetings have been changed to the first Thursday of each
month at 7 : 00 P.M. in Room 6. The next meeting is scheduled
for February 6 .
Mr. Riggs also announced that Mr. D'Addabbo and Mr. Gable
are no longer members of the Commission

Mr. Cugno noted that the Zoning Commission has some very
important decisions to make coming up and he encouraged the
Commissioners to show their support.
Mr. Cugno discussed future development of the town-owned
parcel of land on Wethersfield Road.
Mr. Riggs adjourned the meeting at 9 : 45 P.M.
