1996-11-18 BERLIN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION The November 18, 1996 meeting of the Economic Development Commission was called to order at 7:05 P.M. by chairman Tom Stregowski. Those present were Ed Egazarian, Dennis Phaneuf, Ron Stack,Larry Siembab, Don Geschimsky,and Director Charlie Karno. There was no one present for the Audience of Citizens. A motion was made by Mr. Stack, seconded by Mr. Phaneuf and voted unanimously to approve the minutes of the October 21, 1996 meeting. The financial report was not available. The meeting with the Town Manager and Council to discuss Strategic Planning was postponed until December. Mr. Karno reported that Berlin Junior Women's Club has offered to donate close to$2000 to the Town to be used to decorate Farmington Avenue for the holiday season. Mr. Kamo has looked into holiday banners which cost about$150 each with poles and hardware. MidConn Bank has agreed to donate$500 for this purchase. Mr. Karno proposed using$2000 from the Economic Development Promotion budget to add to the above donations to purchase 30 banners to be hung along Farmington Avenue for the holiday season. A motion was made by Mr. Geschimsky, seconded by Mr. Siembab and voted unanimously to approve the proposal of Mr. Kamo to use$2000 from the Promotion budget to purchase banners. The 1997-98 budget was reviewed and approved by the consensus of the Commission. The budget will be reviewed with the Town Council on January 9, 1997 at 9:15 P.M. At this point in the meeting,an informational meeting was held with property owners along Wilbur Cross Highway where a wetlands study is being conducted. Five property owners were in attendance. Mr. Kamo made introductions and explained to the public the concerns of the Commission and why the study is being made. Bart Bovee of MBA Engineering reviewed the history of the area and explained the process of mapping wetlands. Two of the property owners expressed their opposition to trying to develop the land in the study area. One person felt that other properties, some with existing buildings, should be marketed better. The other owner likes to have her property behind her home on Worthington Ridge vacant to give her privacy and protection from development on the Wilbur Cross Highway. The Director's Report was reviewed. A motion was made by Mr. Geschimsky, seconded by Mr. Phaneuf and voted unanimously to adjourn the meeting at 9:00 P.M. Respectfully submitted, �..p/(eueli) )dee.
