1952/06/16Minutes of the Meeting August 28, 1952 TOWN OF BERLIN OFFICE OF THE SELECTMEN The meeting opened at 6:30 P.M. with the three Selectmen present. A motion was made by Mr. A. Nilsson and seconded by Mr. A. Auddette that the apartment in the Murray House (located on Porters Pass - aensington) being vacated by the Cadrain family, be rented to Anthony Cagiliantry of 897 Farmington Ave., Kensington. In view of the following circumstances, Mr. Cagiliantry is a veteran who is separated from his two children at the present time due to inadquate housing facilities in Kensing. The Cagiliantry's hayer, periodically, over the past 6 or 8 months, appealed to the First Selectman for his help in locating a rent so that his family might be reunited. Mr. Hall advised the Board of Selectmen that some consideration had been given to making the apartment available to a Jones family in order to make room for the Cheatum family who, he (Mr. Hall) understood, was on the verge of being evicted. Mr. Hall reported, further, that an agreement had been reached with the help of Dr. Waskowitz, Mrs. Jones, Mr. Thibeau, and the Cheatum family which apparently solved their housing problems. Mr. ~atacheck, a resident of Brier Lane, Kensington, appeared before the Selectmen this evening to inquire what was being planned for the repairing and the surfacing of t~is street. Mr. Hall informed him that a meeting had been planeed with the Town Engineer, Richard McKeon and himself on Aug. 26th to decide upon the proper grades. It was agreed that the regular Selectmen meeting would be held on Tuesday, September 2nd instead of September 1st. because of Labor Day. It was decided this evening that the Town meeting would be held on Wednesday, Sept. l~, 19§2 at 8:00 P.M. A letter was received from Mr. William M. Schawb, Field Commissioner of the Boy Scouts requesting permission to hold Camp Out programs on Sept. 2~th. and 28th, October ll and 12th and the last in October at a dated to be determined later at Webster's Grove. -2- A letter was written him, informing that the Selectmen have granted the Boy Scouts permission for the Camp Out programm on the above dates. A copy of the letter on file. A petition signed by 27 residents of Orchard Road and Edgewood Road, requesting that Orchard Road between the Chamberlain Highway and Edgewood Road be paved with the funds that have been set aside for this purpose. A motion was made and passed that Mr. Hall report to the petitioners Go explain why the plan had been abandoned. Mr. Hall explained to the Selectmen that he along with George Hamlin went to Plainviile and spoke to Mr. Riggs, Building Inspector for the Town of ~Ltm Plainville. Mr. Hall informed the Board that Platnville had adopted the State Code and after ammending a few items found it satisfactory. A motion was made and passed authorizing Mr. Hall to contact Mr. ,"alter Hedges of the State Board of Public Works to come to Berlin and explain the benefits of the State Code to the Selectmen ~'oning Commission, George Hamlin etc. Mr. Hall said that he would arrange for this meeting to be held on September 10, 19§2 at the Town Hall. A tax refund to the U. ~. Uoverr~ment was signed by the Selectmen this evening for the sum of $20.§8. Meeting adjourned at 9:10 P.M.
