The Meeting was called to order at 7 : 15 P.M. by Chairman Baldyga .
On Mucioii by Mr. Borthwick, .euonded by Mrs . Carey, it was VOTED
to approve the minutes of the January 29 , 1987 meeting MGCTON CAttRIED.
Mrs . Delaney distributed copies of a letter she wrote to the
Aetna Grants Committee with a copy of her notes taken during their
joint meeting on February 9, 1987 concerning the proposed public
computer room in the new library and what part the Aetna will
play in providing assistance with this room.
Mrs . Baldyga informed the members on the call for the Town Meeting
scheduled for this evening is a request from the Public Building
Commission for $30 , 000 for preliminary plans for the proposed new
library. When these funds are approved, we should be informed of
the Commission ' s choice of an architect for this project and we
can then schedule a meeting to discuss our plans .
Mrs. Baldyga directed the members to review the Statement of Need
submitted with the Grant applications to determine what suggestions,
changes, additions or deletions they may have and we shall plan
to amend the Statement at our next meeting. Some of the items not
included in the Statement of Need are the computer room, below grade
storage and small study rooms.
Mr. Pohlmann suggested we follow closely the Newington library
project as we may be able to avoid some of their pitfalls and
learn by some of the situations they have encountered. Mrs. Nelson
said the Newington people recommend highly the interior designer
they have as she has been as asset to their project . The Board
expressed an interest in determining what her fee would be and
what services it would include.
Mrs . -Carey asked if the members had-considered tt e -rrstraIlation
of an elevator as was suggested to us previously in place of a
dumb waiter to deliver books to the below grade storage area.
This storage area should be for obsolete books, rare books , magazines ,
books for the book sale, etc. We should have a more easily accessible
storage area upstairs . The present library has a dumb waiter. Why
do we need an elevator for use about two times a month. Mr. Borthwick
asked if we had discussed giving up having a room added on the main

floor for storage. The members agreed there should definitely
be storage on the main floor.
Mrs. Baldyga reminded the Board to be prepared to revise the
Statement of Need at our next meeting. Also, we will hold
election of officers .
There being no further business, it was moved by Mr. Rosso,
seconded by Mrs. Carey to adjourn the meeting at 7 : 30 P.M. The
Board members left to attend the Town Meeting to vote on the
funds for preliminary plans.
Respectfully submitted,
