John Rao, attended meeting to continue his concerns about Friday being treated as a weekend. Would like to make a proposal to extend the Friday hours from 7:00 – 9:00 am to 7:00 am to 11:00 am. John to check back with Len on Friday to see if time has permitted to address this issue at this meeting or if it would need to be tabled to next month’s meeting. b. John Coragleano attended meeting to inform us that the information he received in the mail does not match what is online and that we may want to update the online system. CONSENT AGENDA Recommend approval of donations to the 2011 Berlin Parks and Recreation Department Youth thth Fishing Derbies to be held on Saturdays, April 16 & 30. ? Kiwanis Club of Berlin: $200. ? Mattabasset Rifle and Pistol Club: $500. ? Berlin Lions Club Charities, Inc. $1,000. a.Recommend approval for Hubbard School PTO to sell food and beverages at the Hubbard School PTO Outdoor Carnival on Friday, May 13, 2011 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a rain date of Friday, May 20, 2011 from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.. b.Recommend approval of the donation of one summer playground registration to be used as a prize for the Up Beat raffle and silent auction to be held at the Upbeat Picnic on Thursday, May 26, 2011. c.Recommend approval for Boy Scouts Troop 44, to make fire for cooking at Timberlin Pavilion on Saturday, April 30, 2011 and Sunday, May 1, 2011. d.Recommend waiving Berlin Community Center room rental fee of $50.00 for Berlin Litter Committee for meetings on April 26, 2011 and May 4, 2011. The group will be cleaning up litter on Berlin roadsides. e.Recommend approval for Friends of Berlin Lacrosse to sell food, beverages etc. for all BHS boy’s lacrosse home games at Scalise Football Field, Sage Park TOWN OF BERLIN Park and Recreation Commission 230 Kensington Road • Berlin, CT 06037 f.Recommend approval for Berlin Police Union donation for $250 for Fishing Derby to be used as $50 cash for the purchase toward fish and 4 $50 gift certificates at Dick’s Sporting Goods g.Recommend approval for Timberlin’s Womens’ Group donation of $40.00. Monthly Report b. Review of golf specials – See hand out c. Advertising plan – No update as of yet d. Who controls the Web – Needs someone to double check the website with paperwork going out e. Garrity refund request – Season started 3-10 and ended 12-10. He should be credited 51% at the 2010 rates f. Relay For Life – Looking for 3 Golf Carts for donation – that is the town managers decision g. Golf round donation requests: th 1. Newington Park & Rec for a raffle prize for their 13 annual golf tournament on th May 9 at Indian Hill CC. th 2. Hospital for Special Car for a raffle prize for their 16 HSC Lendl Golf Classic on th May 16 at Wethersfield CC to send children with disabilities to summer camp. B and Charles Warner made a motion to approve Don Dellaquila seconded the motion, the motion was unanimously approved with further investigation on CBS Hartford D and Steve Hinchliffe made a motion to approve Charles Warner seconded the motion, the motion was unanimously approved F1 Donna Bovee made a motion to approve and Don Dellaquila seconded the motion, I voted in favor and 7 against. This request was denied F2 Donna Bovee made a motion to approve and Don Dellaquila seconded the motion, the motion was unanimously approved TOWN OF BERLIN Park and Recreation Commission 230 Kensington Road • Berlin, CT 06037 PUBLIC GROUNDS a.Monthly Report b.Park signage – See handout c.Controls for new field maintenance account – See handout - $6800 should go to 3 critical fields (Zipadelli, Sage 1, Percival Soccer) d.Veteran’s Park - There will be no arch but approved medallions in columns. There is a Special Revenue Fund set up for a brick fund for the walking area. They are selling brick for veterans at approximately $80-$100 per brick. e.Sage Park Maintenance Building – Received a quote for $97,000. Does not include foundation, floor or electrical. Wood structure 4200 sq ft. f.Friendship Bottomless Playground – Needs to repair and seal mats, repair damage, waiting for approval . Once approval received, work will be done in June prior to school closing. Steve to follow up with Linda Garrity to check on Grant money with National Foundation for Bottomless Playgrounds. g.Petit I Field Lighting – Met with Bill and representative from Musco. Gathered all the details, taking to town council and then to P & Z. Field will be used for tournament games and weekend games. h.Other projects being worked on are fencing at Percival Pool, winter fencing damage, Pavillion at Memorial Pool. i.Sage Park Well – Looking to see getting the well opera table. There are a lot of issues. Waiting for cost. Someone looked at it this week and will get back to him this week with results. No money in budget. Not sure if DEP needs to get involved. Not sure if well is large enough. j.Storage Facility - Don Dellaquila was inquiring about a storage shed. Friends of softball would be interested in donating a shed. Had Lowes interested in donating a 10 x 10 shed. May need to bring to P & Z. Chuck suggested Don to use Dave’s Maintenance Building. PARKS & RECREATION a. Monthly Report b. Summer Staff – all summer staff has been hired. All staff will have background checks. Eight new staff hired c. Easter Egg Hunt – To be held on Saturday, 4-16-11 d. Fishing Derby – To be held on Saturday, 4-16-11 e. Purchased used exercise equipment (tricep press, hip reduction, compound roll) great addition to weight room f.
