2011-02-14 Berlin VNA Nursing Board February 14, 2011 Room A – 7:00 p.m. Present: B. Luddy, J. Clark, P. Bobrowski, S. Lyons, L. Colella, C. Kuehn and Dr. Chorzepa Absent: D. Pindar, B. Constantine, N. Baccaro, E. Frederick, M. Chapman Excused: M. Aresimowicz, P. Alkas, L. Williams Call to Order President Luddy called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. Audience of Citizens None Minutes There was not a quorum present at tonight’s meeting. January minutes will be put on the March agenda. President’s Report A list of members emails have been compiled and will be forwarded to the nursing office and board members. Treasurer’s Report None Presented Administrator’s Report The following was presented – L. Colella gave an overview of what the nurses, home health aides and therapy staff have to go through to see the agency’s clients during the cold, snowy winter weather. It is a challenging time but all clients’ were seen and needs met. ? One of the full time staff nurses is still out on leave. One of the per diem nurses is working two days a week case managing patients to provide consistency in nursing visits. ? New Medicare & Medicaid Mandate - Starting April 1, 2011 qualified therapists will be required to perform periodical reassessments with documented measureable goals at least every 30 days. It will be a challenge. We will be working on the details of implementation. -2- ? CCCI - This survey took placed on 1/20/11 and went well. Recommendations have been implemented. ? Joint Commission – The final “Measurement of Success” plan has been submitted in January to the Joint Commission. The plan has been accepted with full accreditation of all services granted on August 26, 2010. ? School Health – The new medication regulations meeting with the school nurses was canceled twice due to weather and will be held early spring. All new regulations have been implemented. Also a meeting was held with Denise McNair, Town Manager, Mr. Erwin, Superintendent of Schools, Roman Czuchta, Director of Business Operations and Dave Evon, Board of Education Technology Department and the Board of Education agreed to pay for the half of the SNAP Program. ? Public Relations – The weather has postponed a few visits to skilled nursing facilities and will be rescheduled in the near future. A meeting was held with the Discharge Coordinator at the Hospital of Central Connecticut’s Emergency Department. In an effort to lower re-hospitalizations the Hospital of Central Connecticut has developed a CHF Care Path and they collaborate with area skilled nursing facilities and home care agencies and they have offered Berlin VNA to join this project. Supervisor’s Report C. Kuehn gave an overview of the surveyor’s visit. Also discussed the challenges of the nurses’ and home health aides during the bad weather with scheduling and prioritizing clients based on their needs. Nominating Committee Sharon Lyons, Chairperson of the Nominating Committee presented a slate of officers as follows. The voting will be held at the March meeting because of the quorum not met at tonight’s meeting.
